So what exactly is this a warning about? Are you under the impression iridium is a brand name of NGK? It's an element. AGA do make an iridium range of plugs. They are not a crappy make of plug and are an OEM supplier to quite a few companies both inside and outside of China. You don't want them because they are made in a Chinese factory for a Chinese company rather than made in a Chinese factory for a Japanese company like NGK? If you want NGK plugs, order NGK plugs. NGKs have traditionally been the best choice for Minis but that doesn't mean someone can't develop something better.

when i recieved these aga plugs they did not say what plugs they were the photo they had on ebay looked like a denso one when recieved them they were not a good looking plug crappily made by the look of it, the guy on the phone when rang them admitted they not as good as NGK
couldnt find any good info ona search wasnt going to put these in my modified mini when i can get NGK for the sme price which i have used before and are realy good

The resistance of a spark plug gap is several thousand ohms. The difference fancy plugs and leads make is infinitesimal in comparison.

As mentioned earlier - new plugs will always run better than old knackered plugs. All this 'iridium' stuff if just 'puff'. And traditionally - I only ever saw the BMC Works mechanics fitting Champion plugs (N60Y or N64Y) .......I see no reason to change.

Not quite, the difference is that Iridium spark plugs will work in hotter environments, such as lean burn or turbo, NOS etc far better with higher reliability, you pay the money for technology, but not always needing it....

for example people have been cycling for hundreds of years (yeah I know ... they are getting really tired.... ) but in th elast 10 or so years we have suddenly gone all hi tech, with titanium and carbon parts, are they necassary for cycling to work or to the shops or down the park ?? not really, so the question is not how good Iridium spark plugs are.... the questions should be will they make a difference that is worthwhile ?, do i need them ? and are they worth the extra expense ?

I think in most cases they are probably not required, if however your engine is running hotter due to modifications such as NOS etc... or you are using it in motorsport then you will see benefits in reliability and output, I personally will continue to use Iridium in my turbo and I have been using them since 1996 when they were considerably more expensive than £30 a set... but then I am also using coil per plug with some pretty hefty coils that put out 85kv not the normal 45kv...... so I am also using a much larger spark gap :)

Your average Mini engine with less than 150 bhp .... they are a "nice to have" not a necessity...... in my opinion.

Ive seen results of tests where new plugs were not as good as used ones of the same brand and batch, and a used abrasive cleaned plug cam out best, but define good/ better...

but obviously knackerd plugs won't be as good as not knackered ones, Also for the record I have seen duff NGK plugs straight out of the box, and conversly I know people that have had duff champions etc.

in the old days where everything ran like crap you could get away with basic plugs, but these days where you have things like Vtec's that are expected to rev to 9k and make 240hp but still idle perfectly in traffic and only need the plugs changed ridiculous service intervals, and similar with 300hp turbo lumps As MRA say this is where they are required,

Also I'd never put a N60/64Y near mine, it wouldnt run on it, (apart from it not fitting) as per an MPI/SPI it would screw with the ECU.

another thing, people often seem to make some small mods and immediatly stick in a set of colder plugs, its really not usually needed on the road go 1 grade colder at the most, and CHECK the plugs,

Fitting the wrong grade of plug can reduce the power considerably :( I have seen 25 bhp lost due to wrong plugs.....

I have some NGK iridium spark plugs on my 1.3 spi mayfair.

Engine is more responsive than it was with the standard ones.

:)
