The subframe mounts are pretty easy to be honest. If you've got a friend and an hour to spare you'll soon get them done.

I would change to solid subframe mounts.
One of the best things I have done to mine.

i was thinking the same , it made me laugh the heavily underseald part , like its a bad thing for a mini xD , what differance's does it make upgrading to solid mounts? also what mounts did you change to solid , as i have an idea how you would go about changing the lower ones but the tower ones im not to sure ?

Number 16 seems a bit of a farce too, I didn't know they inspect for rust through the boot pretty much every car has a carpet in the boot, what's wrong with looking up when over the pit?

i was thinking the same its rediculous.

It's a shame they have to do things like this, in the garage I work at, is really quiet, but we don't 'make' work.

I love this type of response whenever someone fails a car.

Item 16, if there's a bootlining kit, there are several areas in the boot that the tester cannot inspect, the rear of the seat back being just one example. All he's done is note as an advisory that he can't see it to properly inspect it. Kind of the same thing with the underseal. If he can't see the seams around patches, but know there are areas that have been repaired, then he's noted that he can't see how good the repairs are. It's his name on the certificate, so he's totally entitled to make notes like that.

The rest of it, is it really that hard to believe that it's genuine? Most garages wouldn't want the work, I doubt they've got a load of stock of subframe mounts.

I'd have thought you got away quite lightly, theres not that much there to be honest.

As Matt says, the tester is just covering himself, he hasn't failed it for silly reasons just done the sensible thing and advised.
