Hi people basicly i just bought some red led toggle switches, now as i was about to put them in i noticed pretty much all the switches have 4 wires coming in, where as my new ones have the ground (earth), input power and output power. So what are the 4 wires on the old ones, im guessing possibly the old ones had to have their own feed for power? if so or not anyone able to clue me up??
here are the switches in question:

Im also going to put on a push start button here it is:
http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1497.l2649
any ideas how to do this? and finally ive bought a aluminium surround for the switches but i cant figure how to get the choke and heater cable button things, well cable pulls off any help many thanks mini people

Most of the switches on the mini are multi-pole and also multi-position...
The only one you can realistically change for a single pole off-on switch is the rear demister...
The headlight switch is an off-on-on switch, and has to control two circuits, the side and head lights, and also when the headlights are on then the side light are also required to be on..
The Hazard is an on-on switch, so when in the 'off' position it's actually on and sending power to the indicator circuit, and in the 'on' position it cuts power to the indicator circuit and connects the power to both left and right indicators from a permanent 12v feed and the hazard flasher.
The brake test is not so much a switch as a lamp with a test, the switch just makes the circuit live to test the bulb is working, but in normal condition the circuit is live.
Finally the fog light switch is an off-on, but receives it's power from the side light circuit...
So, if you want to change from the std switches to toggles, the you will need two off-on switches, a momentary on-on switch, and two multi-pole switches, one being an on-on and the other being an off-on-on ( 3 position switch - but you can do this with two off-on multipole switches if necessary )

Im sure you could do multi pole switches with the LED's, as I know you can get multi pole standard toggle switches.

I've looked but never found multi pole L.E.D. toggle switches.

It can be done, but with a bit of tricky circuit work.
I upgraded to the MPI stalks, with lost me the headlight switch problem.
I left out the brake test switch, as this is now done via a warning light, just like you get on modern cars.
The rear fog is done with a normal toggle switch.
The rear demist can be done with a toggle
The hazard switch can be done with a toggle, with the help from a number of relays - there is a circuit diagram on here somewhere, its what i used for this circuit - it works.
As for the choke and heater cables, first you need to disconnect them from the engine end, then inside the car, you'll find 2 small nuts holding the switch panel in place, right round the back of it. Get on your back and get your head round there... the first time isn't easy!

This is a diagram from someone on here (can't remember who now) that rewired their switches, I hope they don't mind me sharing it

Here's a couple of pics of my switch set up. Ignore the mess and dust and lack of dash, it's in mid rebuild!!

It changes the map slightly, and pushes the rev limiter a little bit higher
