Once you get them set up correctly and balanced then they usually stay ok for years, I had one set though that caused me hassle until I used a rebuild kit on them and then they was fine.

Only other thing to suggest would be the weight of oil you use in the pots, what filters are you using as I find the usual chrome pancake ones are a killer.

yeah 3 in 1 tends to work alot better than the official stuff, also check that you using the correct throttle return springs because that can also be a problem.

Well firstly what size engine are you putting the HIF44 or twin 1.25" SU's on ?

Also 3in1 oil is exactly what SU use.....

A little history, SU or Skinners Union as it's original name was started life as cycle engineers, they progressed to motorcycle engineers as enginesbecome available, 3in1 oil was designed for cycles and as such is ideal for SU carburettors as it is a single grade oil not a multigrade such as engine oil ie 10w40 etc....

The oil that SU currently sell is as far as I am aware 3in1 or at least the same grade and characteristics :)

On burlen site is stated somewhere SU oil is a straight SAE 20.
I've used thin 3in1 for the twin hs2, now i'm running a single with sligtly thicker oil (common 10w40 engine oil, 20w50 was too thick for my application). Damper oil have to be choosen to achieve the correct fuel enrichment under accelleration.

3in1 oil is SAE20.....

Ok, then yes either a HIF44 (fuel economy and ease of adjustment) or twin 1.25" HS2's for little more power, better torque curve and bigger grin factor :)
