I like Horses...and always slow down to the same speed as the horse, I wait for the rider to signal me to come past..This way I can be sure that the rider feels confident that he/she has control of their mount... Did I mention I dont like arrogant cyclists though....well just in case you missed it....ive said it again..

What a silly man you are. Perhaps you didnt hear me. Not all cyclists are arrogant, in fact most are scared stiff their gonna get squashed by arrogant motorists who dont extend them the same courtesies they do to horses ;-) I am the manager of a bike shop, and have worked in the industry for 16 years. I've heard of many and known a few people killed by motorists, and most were not lycra wearing racers, but normal people who chose a different mode of transport.

I could easily say every driver is an arrogant idiot who's invincible in their metal box. But i'm mature enough to recognise there are bad eggs in every batch. Besides i enjoy cars and driving myself.

So do us favour and grow up.

Maybe you should read my post again...I said I disliked arrogant cyclists...not all cyclists...I fear you may have proved my point with your post...And please refrain from insulting me...I am neither silly or imature..Although Im not sure Ishould have expected anything else..

Sure mate. have a nice drive to work tomorrow, please try not to kill anyone.
Yours,
Arrogant cyclist

Maybe you should read my post on the previous page where I mention that I am also a cyclist...I take part in a few of the speed trials that are regularly held up here in the Highlands, although im not at all competative..I also use my mountain bike in the winter and have been known to podium on a few of the endurance events.
So although you own a bike shop that does NOT give you the right to come on here and poo poo my opinions.
And if I meet a cyclist on the way to work tomorrow he/she will get the same respect I always afford cyclists. but for some reason some of them will never be happy untill the motorist is removed from the roads...

Fair enough. But the tone of your comments is not in keeping with most cyclists i know. And you didnt say you took part in these events. I would have expected much more respect from a recreational cyclist for everyday cyclists., than to appear to be lumping them all into one irresponsible group.

I am not poo pooing your opinions, it seems now you havent made them clear! And just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean i have to agree with it.

I would not be happy if cars were removed from the roads, although less would be nice. All i'm asking is you take care not to APPEAR as to be branding all cyclists as nuisances. Its this latent belief in some motorists that causes them to snap and do something crazy.

And being in the cycling industry DOES give me a unique perspective i was keen to share. A bad idea perhaps on a car forum.....

I'll not be posting on this topic again, i got drawn in against my better judgement. Hope to converse with you about mini's in the future.

You know its not just motorists and cyclists!

Today I had a lassie (about 25) with a huge pair of head phones on run out onto the road from between 2 cars.i was dong about 40kmh I swiftly slammed on the brakes, for her then to give me the bird and a horrible dirty look. I got out the car to calmly explain that it was her, who ran out and it was here who wasnt aware of her surroundings (headphones), but she was having non of it! Really annoyed me!!

I forgot about pedestrians and joggers!

Absolute menaces when they aren't paying attention.

I heard that the police are now looking as much at the pedestrian as at the motorist recently...in the event of an accident. I have seen people bopping along the pavement in a totally different world with the music blasting in their ears...But I suppose its just one more thing we as motorists need to think about when driving in town.

Haha :D

There are grumpy and idiotic people on every means of transport. I cycle a couple hundred miles a week and the way I see some other people riding is so dangerous. You'd think as the vulnerable party in any car-on-bike crash they'd be a little more attentive! The flip side is car drivers who pass too close, pass then turn left, and my biggest annoyance, car drivers who don't seem to think a bicycle can achieve 40+mph. I also run a lot and use an iPod for music and nike+, but you can't have it on so loud that it removes your sense of hearing or distracts from what is going on around you. Some people are in an absolute bubble when jogging and frequently run in front of cars. I live on a turning from a main road, there are maybe 20 t junctions along it, and people just run/jog/walk across without even checking for traffic. It's a nightmare trying to pull out on to the main road.

I also drive a fair bit, in an Audi or my Mini. I find people are more courteous about town when I am in the Mini, they give way more. As soon as its an NSL road of any sort, everyone feels the need to pile past it. It's an MPi, it's quite capable of rolling at the speed limits and pulling away quick, it's just the 'mini - must overtake' mentality. Conversely, around town people don't care about letting me pull out in the Audi, and people seem to expect you to fly past them at any opportunity. It's not my car so I drive it very carefully :D

So true about people just having to overtake a mini! The other week me and my mate were driving to college when this guy in a Porsche pulled up behind us, not even a real porsche- a boxster (mid-life crisis). But anyway, we werent going slowly by any means but this guy overtakes then slams his foot on the brake causing us to brake and nearly go into the back off him. As we all know most cars will destroy a mini on the straights, but not many cars out there can out corner a mini ;) should've seen that ******* face when a little "pathetic" mini passes him on a country road. One of my proudest moments :D
