Roof racks are fine. there is a topic ive seen before on here of ones people have reccomended. I imagine they will hurt the economy a bit due to drag but if you have have to carry stuff not much other choice :)

i had a full set of sockets, spanners, screw drivers, cable ties, insulating tape, set of points, condenser, oil, brake fluid, vice grips, pliers, i'm sure theres more to that list but if i'm doin that many miles away from home i'd bring that lot and probably more!

The mini should complete a 2000km run without any problems so long as it has been maintained. A good service before hand would be a good idea :)

Charlie one of le admins on here drove a mini in the Mongol Rally and made it back with only a few problems along the way. The thread is around somewhere so it is possible with the right car.

I did the mongol rally in an old scamp and did a lot less prep than charlie.
Its a gamble like most things. There is no reason why it wont make it. they are very capable cars. If you want to stand a better chance of sucsess than the right knowledge, parts, condition of car and planning are ideal but its a lot more fun to just wing it! (all though less chance of success!)

I did the IMM last year in germany and did 1500 miles there and back and had no issues, but then I look after my car and do what needs to be done on it, when it needs it.
