Air Filter, debris ruining the bores.
depends how bad the rings are, sometimes oil will always be in the cylinder causing a good reading.

ahh, I haven't no.

I did do a compression test with putting a bit of oil in the cylinder and it didn't really rise much at all (around 5psi)

What do you mean by loose filter linkage?


I wondered that also. Perhaps liirge meant "leakage" not linkage?

My take is the same as those above who suggested bad rings. A leak down test will identify all sorts of problems and do a better job of it than a compression test alone.

I will find a garage to do a leak down test for me and then see what that says :)

you can have knackered rings and decent compression, if oil rings let oil past the oil can help to seal the compression rings when you test it.
