Was there lots of bini's last year?
Would have thought the majority would be classics
There have always been a few Bini's taking part, ever since I started going back in 2001 and they seem to have been gradually increasing in numbers over the years. But I think that the big difference last year was that Mini World Magazine was taken over by the same publisher that produces one of the leading Bini mags ("Modern Mini Magazine" or something similar). With Mini World being one of the main L2B sponsors, I believe that their publisher started selling tickets through both magazines, which therefore significantly increased the number of Binis taking part last year, there was even a special Bini section in the concourse/ show & shine competition as I recall.
The classic mini still made up the majority of numbers by far, but I'm sure that Bini numbers will probably be of a similar level this year, if not higher. As I understand it, with classic mini ownership numbers slowly declining, LSMOC (the event organisers) are now promoting L2B toward Bini owners, in order to keep the event going for the future. So I'm afraid that like it or not, Bini participation in classic mini shows and events looks like it's here to stay and I suppose that it's just something that we will have to get used to.

I so want to do it again this year, but I'm racing on the Sunday.

but I feel that allowing them into mini meets may be the way forward to keeping the show scene going in such quantity and quality, this is because they are reliable and people feel safer travelling further in a reliable, safe, modern example.
I don't think that it's really anything to do with Bini safety. Classic mini numbers are on the decline simply because they have been out of production for almost 12 years now. Dispite all our efforts, numbers will naturally continue to fall as time goes on, as more and more of the later models come to the end of their natural life. With the time and cost invloved in renovation and keeping a classic mini alive their will always be an inevitable decrease in their numbers, particularly in the current ecenomic climate. By contrast the massive commerical success of the Bini and all it's varients means that numbers are increasing all the time, making their owners a significant potential market for mini shows & events.

Well as long they can separate the Binis a bit better in future, I don't mind them joining in with the L2B, and other shows, at all.

i agree with you on that one, they should have a seperate cue! tbf i dont dislike them really, but its a heck of alot different playing with an old car than a new car. Hopefully there'll be more classics than new though :)
