Yeah but the 6x9's 'play' full range - thats no good behind you under the rear seats, or parcel shelf.

This is the way forward in a mini:
Sub in boot, amped
6.5's up front, amped

i have two vibe black air 6x9s on my parcel shelf on little open bottomed pods :) they are 525w peak each or 175w RMS ( i think ) that's running off my old kenwood 600w amp :) then i have the two 6.5"s, one in either door :) running off an amp also, and then my 8" chameleon sub in a bandpass enclosure box in my boot :) upto a 400w amplifier in the boot :), i'm okay with my audio, i do understand a fair bit of it, but my sub must be too powerful for the boot as the lid manages to 'fart' xD haha

but i highly, seriously highly recommend the vibe black air 6x9s on a parcel shelf or under rear seat, with a paired amp you wouldn't need a sub :) they really do kick well

They might 'kick' but the whole concept of having full range speakers behind you in a small to medium size car is Wrong period..

And having speakers on the rear shelf not in sealed pods with a sub in the boot, is also fundamentally incorrect and infact likely to damage the speakers very quickly and also sound terrible...

I wish users that have little install experience would stop posting "advice" like this, it's wrong and likely to damage people's hard bought equipment.

I don't care what you do with yours, But don't tell others it's correct!

you are damn right rude ruckus, i never advised it i 'highly recommend' the vibes because i had them, and i didn't know that the 6x9 would sound better in an enclosed box/mount, and i haven't had a problem with the bass hitting my 6x9s, but i will get sealed pods to keep you happy, i don't care how much i spend as long as the finishing product sounds nice, i'm not stupid, i am definately not being rude either, but from what i have read from your posts in various topics, shows that you have a wide variety of knowledge and the capability to do the things you speak of, like making your own boot enclosure, i don't have those skills and on the island there aren't many people that could do it, let alone for a good price. for the record, i only recommended what i have is good and sounds good to what i like. anyway smile :)

OK i'm confused here, you start with calling me rude and then end with a :)

I'll take the :)

Sorry but i did take "seriously highly recommend" as advice to purchase the same? sorry if i misunderstood but that's what it sounded it like.

I do take the view of really trying not to recommend any specific kit. More give people direction or options and let them make there own mind up, although sometimes it hard to do this.

Why? it covers your arse, if the guy your give recommendations to take you up on it with no research of his own, then hates the kit or gets told my somebody at a later date (that they feel knows what they are talking about) that the kit is not a good choice. Then you become the bad guy...

If you had simple said "seriously highly recommend you have a listen to a set" BINGO

:D

managed to pick up a cheap 4 channel amp off ebay, JVC KS-AX504. I'm thinking of wiring it in so the 6x9's are used for bass (i think you can set the crossover for the front and rear channels separately) and then some components in the door/tweeter on dash rail....when i can afford to get the components. i'm thinking of leaving the 6x9's on the parcel shelf as i just trimmed it, will they need some enclosures underneath? or will they be ok as there wont be a sub in the boot?

They are Ok without enclosures! Because there is nothing to 'attack' them in the boot :).
