The 2 year proposal is just ridicuouls
VOSA live off of a £2 royalty for bike MOT's and a £3.50 royalty for car MOT's
32 million MOT's each year thats not a bad budget but they run allt he equipment, backup etc
When they implement it there will be no cars going through the system for a year apart from ones coming off of SORN becuase new cars dont need MOT;s anyway.
This means VOSA will have no budget.
80% at least of all MOT stations will go bankrupt from no buisness because that is the bread and butter buisness.
Then the year after you wont have the capacity to test 32 million vehicles again...
This is without the fact that a problem will not be there when the test is issued. At the moment the car is failed a year later with the problem as it is unsafe.
Imagine the problem 2 years later?
Corrosion, Rust, bearings, etc 2 years is a long time.
Absolute madness from yet another EU directive by Mr Von Rompoys undemocratic parliament

i really can't see i country like Britain Passing a law that could/would make the roads more dangerous. If anything is going to happen i could see it going to a 6month MOT. More money for the MOTers, 'safer cars', and another thing to Tax for the Goverment. Its win win win for everyone apart from Drivers.

The old printers have been removed and updated with a new printer, to allow printing of the new certs.
The idea is to save the MOT trader and VOSA money, as they no longer need to buy/produce 4 different MOT papers. (blue copy for tester, red for fail, green for pass, yellow for advise)
The MOT data as been "online" so to speak since it went computerized, the actual need for a certificate isnt that great as you can now tax your car online etc. But you still need a mot cert for a police producer for example. I know the police have access to the mot system to check, but there will be instances were they wont or dont have time.

there is also talk that pre 1960 cars won't need a MOT
That will never happen.
MOT = TAX = money
Same reason why the two year MOT thing won't happen.

A lot of these changes are to bring the UK in line with the rest of Europe.............more and more of these kind of changes are EU directives which must be implemented by ALL member countries in the march towards common standards and regulations.

What's the point in testing trailer electrics without the trailer

That cat rule is a puzzler too, it doesn't have to work but you have to have it???
Who'll be the first to produce a cat shaped link pipe do you think?

Yeah that would be crazy because pre 1960s having no MOT makes no sense the MOT is for safety pre 60s cars are even more likley to be unsafe than a more modern car. Although i suppose you could argue most people who have a pre 1960s car these days are going to be collectors or enthusiasts so in theory they are more likley to maintain there cars to a higher standard than your average car owner. But i don't think laws are past on 'theories' like that. are they?
From Bungle's link Public Consultation - Pre-1960 Historic Vehicles MoT Exemption Review
1.7 Pre-1960 manufactured vehicles are largely well maintained by their owners. The initial MoT test failure rate for these vehicles in 2009 was less than 10%, whilst the initial MoT test failure rate for post-1960 manufactured vehicles was over 30%.
