I was thinking it would be something like £3k!

Not read the full spec, £13K is expensive but then i suppose there are people out there that will pay it, otherwise they wouldn't build them!!

Just the going rate for a potential race winning engine these days.
I think you would need at least 13k to buy a fully built race spec Mini engine from any race winning company like say Swiftune below:

It doesn't sound like too expensive for a full-on FIA spec Historic Cooper 'S' engine. This is an A+ block, but the crank will almost certainly be a brand new EN40B forged steel crank with special rods. The pistons will be very special too and the head will be very flowed using a flow-bench. Everything will be accurately balanced too.
For all this, labour alone could easily be 120 hours at, say, £60 per hour, so that's over £7000.
It appears to include the gearbox, for which around another £2000 could be added, so £13k does look reasonable really.

Swiftune Miglia engines are around the £13k mark. SH is generally cheaper but that is obviously a very special race winner so can get the extra £'s.

only problem i seee with an engine this highly spec'd you will need to be rebuilding this once a season or 3000 miles

If it has the En40b forged crank and forged rods and pistons then this engine will be bomb proof especially with a dog box. Well worth the money if your I to historic racing. Definitely rather spend 13 grand at KAD though
