Finally got the Equinox out on the road the other day, and had a couple of hairy moments on the brakes - not quite code brown, but enough to wake you up. They occasionally need a pump or two before they bite.

 

Normally I'd attribute this to air in the lines, but they were bled relatively recently and there are no leaks as far as I can see. I would also assume that air in the lines would be consistetly spongy, which isn't the case here. Sometimes they work first time, sometimes they need a couple gos.

 

Assuming the above to be true (and I'm happy to be corrected if not!), is anyone able to pinpoint what the most likely cause would be? I was wondering if it could be servo-related.

 

In any case I'll be bleeding the brakes again this weekend, just for peace of mind if nothing else.

Check for runout on the discs.
Check all the pads are moving smoothly.
Push the pads back and have a helper push the pedal.
Adjust the rear brakes to spec.

Check the flexible brake pipes for some bubble/swelling - best to do it as 2 person job - one inspecting while the other pumps over and over

 

Adjust the back brakes up and retry

 

Servo vacuum lines?

 

Also check front split Cv washer for cracks and give the whole wheel a good tug in all directions - 

 

Not an area (brakes) where sometimes or mostly are the words I like to hear
