Our Ozzy production had them top and bottom, but I think UK production only had them top - or that may have been later years.

I just replaced both handbrake cables in my 1968 Mini Traveller. The cables were stretched out and one was frayed just after the handbrake quadrant.

Where each cable enters the passenger compartment through the floor, my car has a pair of "handbrake fairlead plates", with a "sealing pad handbrake fairlead" under each plate. In other words, each cable has a plate and sealing pad inside the car, and a second sealing pad and plate under the car. For a total of four plates and four sealing pads.

The parts diagram shows a single sealing pad and plate per cable.

I need to order some parts and can certainly buy four sealing pads. Perhaps a previous owner had a water leak at the handbrake cables, and installed extra plates and pads.

Did the Mk2 Mini originally have a single sealing pad and plate per cable?

Thank you,

David Schwartz

Somerford list a total of 2 sealing gaskets and 2 guide plates

https://www.somerfor...co.uk/handbrake

As spider mentioned, the Australian parts book lists 4 of each

Originally they were built with them top and bottom and then later changed to top only.
Probably cost saving measure but obviously didn’t have a performance disadvantage (ie no leaking issues) as they stuck with top only to the end of production, even after going to single cable
