I used dog bowls for about a year, mine had deadening on the inside and out and then painted with thick black underseal... No noise.

I would go for bigger boxes of some sort though.
The bowls unless you run a hollow MDF front panel do not have enough air space.

The dog bowls are neat and simple. My front components are hertz 130.3 s so perhaps need a little less volume than the 160s. I've just emailed hertz and asked them for optimal cabinet volumes. They said " we are on holiday until 25/8 because we are Italian". I think the best I can do is a 5 litre bowl. Watch this space.
The layered Mdf looks too bulky

Yeah is does push in to the cabin a bit.

 

Maybe put the speaker on some 20mm MDF collars to bring them out a little.
