To get the tap straight put it in the chuck of the drill and rotate it with your hand after leveling the block on the bed

The reason BMC used a smaller diameter bolt at the waterpump end is the reduced thickness of the casting there, and the proximity to the edge. Don't be surprised if the block cracks there if you put full torque on your completely unecessary stud there!

I always do them to 55ft/lbs and never had a problem. Also most performance engine builders use the normal size studs for the extra two.

Any one get the impession that Mr bmc doesnt have these 2 on his engines!!? I keep to 45 ft lbs on all but I did a mate's Turbo one the other day and left him to fit it saying to do them 45 "that's 45 more than you would have had without them" and guess what, yup he did 55. Well he was peed off at blowing the gasket when at the rolling road session and was doing all he could.I grimmaced at the thought but well we'll see.Roy may have the last word, that w/pump one is the worry, and its beside the w/pump bolt hole drilling at right angles to it as well. Interestingly Keith calver says to do the 2 extras to 25.

I note that the Cooper-S rocker cover has a different part number...

The only rocker cover that I know if that'l bolt straight on pother than an 's' cover, is minispares own (about 60 quid), but it's only 10 minutes work with a dremel or similar to modify any cover... it's how most are done

thanks8) took about 2 hrs:P and madmk1, i already have the new oil core plugs, is there a real advantage with the threaded ones? or is it just that they are easy to get in and out and are re-usable?? might do this:)
