@Brams96

Wacka-too boy myself- Cambridge. Yeah, I'll join a club at some stage, but the best seem to be in Auckland,,, Not all 940's are unleaded and yes, not much on Trade Me, but the odd gem comes up. It's often cheaper to buy from Mini Spares and pay the shipping, rather than buy locally. Of course NZ rust issues are way less than the UK's...

Cheers

Sweet as bro, you should definitely keep your eye on ebay UK for deals.

I have a Mini Spares road/sports head I need to build up with new valves & guides. Do you think I should stick with this heas or use the 12G940 big valve head I have aswell as it has 35mm inlet & 29mm exhaust?

dam thats an expensive head .. a lightly ported 940 even with the 33mm inlet will be better .. and a smaller chamber will help aswell .. but if you have that small bore head you might aswell use that

i have a running car that is proof that you dont need to pocket the block ..

i have a **** mk1 . so i got a 940 that i have around and just put that on . did not touch the fueling ( still has the 1 1/4 su on std manifold ) did not adjust that or even touch the dizzy .. and holy they diffrence in power was nuts .. it just pulls like a train ( well did , still need to drag it out for lough )

Yeah it's an expensive head but I got it cheap from ebay as it was bare. The thing is I could sell it on as is & use the 12G940 head I have as I had previously polished the chambers & done some light porting on it plus it's got all the guides & valves already & I have some 180lb double valve springs I could chuck on it. Haha, just sort of answered my own question there haven't I?!

Depends on your final engine spec. Unless you are putting what i would call a fast road/race cam in ie a 276 or 286 and other such modifications, the big valve 12g940 will be too much and just wasting your fuel economy for no power gain.

I would go for a SW05 if anything or maybe one of A.C Dodds designed ones. So would you suggest using the mini spares head instead of the 12G940 with the standard cam then?

For a sw5 the big valve 12g940 will still be too much.
You will lose a massive amount of economy for no power gain whatsoever.

The relativly smaller ports on the minispares head in comparison will exacerbate the torque improvment of the sw5.
