i really like the look of tinted windows but how much does it cost and is it road legal? i have been told you can only do the rear windows, not the doors or windscreen is this true? Also if there is a thread to some pictures of tinted windows it would be very helpfull.

regards

You can tint the front side windows with a tint that allows 70% light through to my knowledge.

70% tint is the tint manufacturers put on their glass as standard, so unless you have clear side windows, any other tint on the door glass would be illegal.

im 90% sure that the whole % of light law is now obsolete. Anything other than security tint (clear) is now not allowed in front of the B pillar. You can do what you want with the windows to the rear of the B pillar.

Howver, it is a massive yay!!! Looks cool; but all the windows is the only option as just the backs looks bad. I couldn't condone doing this on here though as you may get tugged for having them done (you normally get the option to peel a bit of it off there and then to show your intention of getting it off)

As for dates; I think that the law came in mid-90s so they cant backdate it so if asked, you had it done aaaaaages ago.

Ive had all my cars done, bar this mini.

Heres a pic of my last mini with tints

Be aware that that is a company's marketing.

Any tints that are not legal should be removed, why on earth would you want to make it harder to see out your side windows when you are looking up the road to see if anything is coming? At night very dark tints must be really dangerous.
See far to many blacked out cars around here, where they are clearly to much of a dark tint and going by there driving they also can not see very well, for me its the same as driving around with your windows misted up all the time, then I see many peeps set off and can not see clearly out any side windows.

Maybe its just me but Id prefer a clear view any time!

Windows tints only really work one way - You can see out of dark tints fine you just can't see in.

They do make a difference but its nothing like how it looks from the outside.

You can get legal front tints but they're not worth the money - You can't even see them.

Got a link to this? Wouldn't mind reading up on it as it seems a lot of changes are being made to future MOT's. Also heard about ECU remaps and HID headlights being tested too...

There's a topic on here which links to the MOT manual for 2012.
