Of course!!... You weren't actually under the impression that insurance exists for any other purpose, other than to make profit for the insurer were you?? :blink: ......

Err....Well...call me naive...but yes i was kind of hoping they might actually do what they are in business to do...insure people against unfortunate accidents..

the insurance company have no way of knowing if the tow bar was fitted from factory or not. Unless they have access to your order/invoice and repair bills from the dealer?

Its funny, we buy custom built vans and trucks from dealers and when you ring with the chassis no, they dont even have all the details about whats fitted and that.

AND when taking insurance online, most companies ask if the vehicle is standard or modified. If you bought a van from a dealer with a tow bar, that would be standard to you.....as you have not modified it.

So you mark the standard box........so what do they class as standard???

How can they increase the excess for that reason? If they had noted the tow bar in the first place are they really suggesting they would have imposed such an excess.

Also, how has having the tow bar had any part in the collision you have had? Surely the excess should remain the same and an increase in premium be charged instead maybe, which I am sure won't be as much.
