It should work, but the early 850 can be a bit different.
The early 850 had the notorious 'thin-tail crank' and the primary gear bushes were oil fed. I can't remember when this changed and I think it might well have been in mid-1961. I'll try to check this out. Parts for the oil-fed primary gear are hard to source now as most 850's have the later crank with the dry-running primary gear bearings as fitted to all later 850, 997 and 998 engines.
Thin tail cranks had a propensity to snap at high revs.
That's from a 50-year old memory!

Hi
As for the primary gear, i will live with it for now. Its not cuausing any runnings issued with the car. I have the engine now rebuilt very well, it sounds great, pulls well etc and happy enough!
At some pint next year I will likely address it.
