Without any disrespect to genuine buyers, I think a lot of the 'international problems' come from Nigeria and other African countries. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure this is where a couple of the scams have originated or involved etc.
I would sell overseas if they pay the postage, you have nothing to lose! Just as long as they know it will cost them a fair bit.
My sister's in-laws are into the BSA bikes and own a place in Belgium and know loads of people all over Europe as a result. If any of them sees something on Ebay they want, they get it delivered to the sister's in-laws and they take it over to Belgium with them. The buyers will then either collect or they take it to them. It seems to work well enough for them, but of course they know all the people.

A small tale of caution. I put a set of James Bond paperbacks on Ebay, buyer from Brazil enquired about postage, so packed them up and weighed at PO. Because they were over 1kg it was about £40. Informs buyer who suggests making two packages, so repackaging and another trip to the PO later postage down to £30. Buyer accepts this, bids on the books and gets them for £3,75.
Paypal take a percentage for converting Brazilian currency to GBP on the total transaction amount £33.75, less listing and final valuation fees.
3 trips to the PO,
2 X packaging.
Several Emails
Filling in customs declaration
All for sweet FA
If the guy has good feedback then deal with him, but beware of sending low value heavy items abroad.

Weigh them on either your kitchen or bathroom scales depending on the size, round it up a bit to be safe and look at the post office website. Its not that difficult.
Request payment in GPB and the buyer takes the hit for the conversion

There is another problem as I understand it. With paypal, the transaction is successful, you send the bits and then the other end starts a dispute saying they didnt arrive or they werent as described or some tosh.At that point the money comes back out of your paypal account-you have no alternative. So then the trouble all kicks off.For small amounts you may choose not to fight so they win. If you do,its a lengthy process. Had the transaction taken place over here,at least everyone speaks the same language and you may even choose to go and sort it out personally. Never happened to me but I know of it. Some will be scammers.

That's the same no matter where the buyer is though. Them being in another country makes no difference at all, someone at the other end of the UK could just as easily do it and the paypal responce would be the same

portugal is popular for car bits. i've sent loads of mini and audi quattro bits over there.
just always make sure you get shipping costs worked out first. i prefer to send stuff by courier instead of royal mail especially if it's something going to italy. don't know why but for some reason sending to italy is a complete shot in the dark.
