so that doesnt matter if it does or doesnt have an MOT

If it has (a recent) one in that condition then I think it does although I appreciate that with enough gloop underneath you can hide just about anything. If VOSA are pulling V5s for un-notified proper modifications then just imagine what they would do if they saw this. It is an offence to drive an unroadworthy car irrespective of the existence of a MOT although you might have some defence if caught on the way home from the testing station.

All this does not change the advice that you should approach the retailer first. If they did not know about this 'repair' they should not be selling cars.

Has anyone else noticed the floorpan has had a cage fitted at some point.

Maybe a perfectly innocent explanation as to why this was done.
To be honest without further investigation there is no point in speculation.

Something like the rear of the car has previously been chopped out for a rear engine conversion, where possibly a space frame has been added, hence the funny shape of the cut..

I suppose it is possible, but still rings big alarm bells....

It would have been better to replace the whole floor pan and inner sills, some of the welding on the inner sill patches leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm not sure about the space frame idea, the car is green on the outside, the door pilar is red.

I'd love to be able to take a look at it though.

Hi shifty,

I have just looked over photos from page 2 post #27; there are no outside photos, so how do you know the car is green? Along with the rear of the floor and the door pillr being red, the photos show the bottom of the door red also. If it were a green car with red doors, I think questions would have been asked duing the purchase?

Just reminded me of this. I had the thought that although you can cover shoddy welding with loads of underseal, it'd be very hard to conceal the bolt heads that must be poking through from the MOT man.
