Been driving it a bit now & it's seriously fun. Anyway I've given the bonnet & the drivers side a quick polish this afternoon -

Posted Image

Also got a bew grille with a badge on it's way to me & got half a litre of monza red paint.

Got the mg grille badge on, looks much better -

Posted Image

Cant decide whether to paint the grille body coloured or not though. I'm thinking leave it black until I paint the roof.

Also got underneath to have a look where the rather large oil leak is coming from. I think a new sump is required -

Posted Image

Not only that but the dipstick tube is broken off so I will try & source a decent sump with a good dipstick & tube. Here's my massive dipstick -

Posted Image

No wonder it took me so long to find it.

One more thing to add to the list, new engine stabiliser bushes -

I attacked the bit of rust on the front doors today -

Posted Image

Was pretty much the same on both sides, ended up welding little bits in. Got it all in primer tonight, will colour tomorrow. Am also going to paint the well faded front bumper & new grille while I'm at it.

I'm finding it pretty much impossible to find a sump or dipstick & tube so if anyone knows of anything please please let me know. I would buy a complete 1.6 car for spares if I have to.

Got some paint on it today, front looks pretty sexy I reckon -

Posted Image

It really shows up how faded the rest of the paint is, I'm definately going to have to paint the rest of the car. Doors look better than with rusty holes for now anyway -

Posted Image
Posted Image

Paint finish is really good though, that's just out the gun, not flatted off & polished yet.

Hello nice sump with no holes -

Posted Image

Goodbye horrible old leaky, lashed up sump -

Posted Image

Just had time this afternoon to whip the old sump off the car & the new one off the other engine. Got the water & oil pumps swapped over as they're on/in the sump.

Need to her back togther again in the morning as at the moment none of my vehicles are actually working.

Does look pretty darn sexy in that pic of the front end don't it Craig!

Got it all back together & done today. I took a cap off to check what the shells were like & was like new. Also noticed the crank has been lightened & balanced :gimme:.Engine has defiantely been out & had work done fairly recently I think.

They used to be cringe worthy cars that were embarrasing to be seen in as a kid lol saw one the other week on the M1 southbound that looked slammed at the back in the slow lane, only when we got close we realised it had 3 engines in the boot/back seat area and 2 burrly skinheads in the front, car comedy at its best lol

Is it the larger engined model ( and Vanden Plas) that comes with the fantastic solid state talking dash ?

Yep has the solid state dash. Just got back from the Nurburgring on the BH2NR run. Done nearly 1000 miles & a couple of laps & the old girl was perfect, well happy :D Will stick some pics up soon.
