I can't believe the rust on this, I've been looking at a few sports pack for a show car but this has seriously put me off.

I think uve gone the right way with a new shell, what's the plan for rust protection on the new shell? Well done for saving this though, many would have given up!

Chris

Thanks chris! Rust protection wise going use Epoxy mastic 121 from rustbuster (www.rust.co.uk)

I plan to do two coats on the entire underside of the car (wings, rear valence etc etc.)

then seam seal every joint and seam I can find

then stone chip the entire underside.

Rust wise I think I have been quite unlucky with mine, also as far as im aware for the last few years of its life it wasnt dry stored and run through winter so I believe that this is the main culprit for the rust, also the poor metal quality ... thanks rover! :)

Hi Mark,

Do you have any previous experience with Epoxy Mastic? If so, can you tell me anything about it - good & bad?

I was thinking about POR15 but decided against it. I'm just about to order some 121 myself (with Phoskleen B), having been previously quite happy with their other products - e.g. Fe123.

Regards,
Bob

Hey Bob,

I Have only recently used it for the first time myself when painting my subframes, its given quite a good finish and feel very strong.

i suppose only time will tell how good it is.

I hope this helps

Cheers mark

Thanks Mark,

Yea - I guess after about 5 years we'll know how good (or bad) it is?

Nice project though - its amazing how a car that looks so good can have so much rust under the surface! Good work so far - keep it up!

Bob
