If they're rusty enough to go in holes through sand blasting, they're too rusty to use!

it was just a quiery cause i wasnt sure how powerfull the sandblaster is

So long as it's sand or grit, you'll be fine. Make sure you duck tape up the holes and keep the grit away from them. If it's a bead blaster, avoid as that's too harsh for mild steel.

Personally, I wouldnt blast them - but it all depends upon what kind of blaster you have, how good you are and what standard of finish you want.

Blasting can cause distortion.

Wire wheels are normally fine - there arent that many nooks and crannies which really makes blasting necessary

Plus wire wheels are cheaper unless you have a sand blaster that is?

i dont have a sand blaster my mate does and he said i could use it any time i wanted .ive already done my subframes ect and they look great after blasting

Subframes are far more substantial than petrol tanks. Unless you are gentle you will distort it

I cant see how a petrol tank is going to distort so easy, it hasnt got vastly long flat surfaces, most of it being curved will hold its shape id guess. We used to media blast some quite presision parts where i used to work and we never had a problem. But of course this is depending on material... heavy shot for doing industrial stuff isnt fit for purpose
