It's a cold Lee,
when i welded in the subframe mounting panel i took
measurements from the cross member and from the
bottom of the front bulkhead, any slight descrepency
could be took out with spacers between the mounting
points when the subframe is fitted

Hi again,
Well I got my a**e in gear and got back in the garage
yesterday decided to have a go at the front end..
Got the grinder out and chopped the front off.
Took the top shock mounts off to ease cutting down the inner wings
and low and behold some more rot to sort out!
oh well it'll give me something too do LOL

Glad to see your still cracking along.
Sills look good, I wonder who gave you that idea
Still love your welding, did you say you were welder by trade? Definately shows. What machine you using?
All the best, happy new year.

Hi Jack believe it or not I was going to go the whole hog on the de-seaming before
I saw yours, but seeing yours just confirmed the need to do the sills.
I'm not completely removing the roof seam though, maybe just the front and rear parts
over the windows.
Thanks for the comments on the welding, I am a welder by trade, but welding old car panels
is worse than welding new thicker material.
Thw first mini I had in 1987 I deseamed , and gave it a 41/2'' roof chop. I'll try and
upload some old photos.
The welding plant is my mates , he got it from Triumph where I used to work when
they closed the welding department, It's a propper industrial one (250 amp)so it's a bit too
powerfull for thin car panels but I'm managing with it.

I just read all this whole thread. What can I say! Well done Sir! I thought I had alot of welding to on my mini! You're doing a top job there. You should be commended for fixing up a shell that far gone, I'd have scrapped it! It'll be a nice feeling when it's all done. Good luck with the rest of the project. I'm lovin your old chopped one by the way! Although I doubt I would be able to fit my legs in it

Miniboo the reason it looks like it's on stilts is it was a mk2 hydrolastic
model, and was most probably pumped up a bit too much when the hydrolastic
system was re-charged after i had sorted out the floor.

Thanks for the appreciation Farrantino and everyone else, this wasn't supposed to be a project
rebuild !!! But it needed a LITTLE bit more work for the MOT than I expected. I should no better
and not buy on impulse LOL.
My first mini (Mk2 in the photo) which I bought in 1987 needed miles less work.
