Thinking of putting standard carb bk on 998 as the car will not run when its cold? but if u bump it goes and drives fine any ideas, 'hiff44 with stage 1 needle and spring.'

Hif44 is to big you need a hif38 or similar fitted with a aaa or (aau i think it was) needle.

It should run, it just might not be very good a metering fuel. If it is the carb causing your starting problems the choke jet might be blocked.

oh right basically if you leave it over nite it doesnt want to know wen u start with choke or without but if u bump it it will start and run ok and if u switch off hot and turn bk on it will start.

Have you tired like cleaning the carb at all or adjusting the fuel air mix?

Normally if its not running right its down to being set-up right of very dirty, but just putting on another carb wont necessarily fix the problem as you'll still have to adjust fuel air mixtures to get it running right.

Its just a case of take it apart and check it over for any obvious problems and clean it. alot cheaper than getting a new carb!

Is your ignition system set up properly? Check the condition and settings (points gap, plug gaps etc) of the ignition components. If your timing is out or you have a fault with the ignition system this could be the reason for your starting problems.

The running mixture has no effect whatsoever on 'cold starting' - the problem probably lies with the choke control - is it actually moving anything at the carb? If you squirt some fuel down the carb throat when cold - does it start then ?

Could YOU maybe use real words instead of "U" and lazy USAmerican spelling of NIGHT...and when instead of wen or back instead of bk.
( there...got that out of my system )

I was running a 44 on a 1098 with a 12g295 head. I found a 38 worked much better with a AAU. Eventually I switched to twin HS2 which I found even better.

Off topic completely i know, but i'm not a fan of the whole "well meant" abuse of how people write certain words.
I don't do it, but it really doesn't offend me to the point of telling someone off about it.
We all write "carb" and "diff" etc(are you going to tell me off for writing etc now?!), they are all abreviations/short hand, why does it have to be any different with other words?
Anywho...
