Well actually i have two! But, i have no labels on either. They are both different types. One with the circuitry under the alloy housing and with an allen key hole in the (plain) shaft, and one with the circuitry exposed (under a plastic cap) and a keyway/key in the shaft.

I would *think* that one is a 45A one, and one a 70A one right? Which one is which? Is there a way to be sure?

TIA
Mike

Got any pics as from the description one sounds like an A127 type (which can be anything from 45a to 65a - they all look the same)

the other sounds like an old ACR type and these have a max output of upto 43amps depending on the windings..

I can ID them by opening them up...

Dave

I can get some pics tomorrow. Should I take them of something in particular?

Just of the alt - can then ID what type it is, to find the ampage they'll prolly need opening up as externally they look the same.

The A127 has the regulator pack arranged in a flat, black almost semi circular housing which sits flush with the rear of the alternator and a 17mm drive shaft. The 16/17ACR type has a much larger regulator pack arranged under a plastic cover at the rear with a large box shaped bulge in the middle and a 15mm drive shaft.

Right, thanks guys. I found a sticker under a ton of grime on one. It is an A127/45. I assume this is the 45A version then?

Either way, I was hoping to have a 70A in my grubbys, but I guess not!

Yeah that'll be a 45amp one..

Do you *need* a 70amp one? - bigger isnt always best....

I reckon so. I'll be fitting a lamp pod with 4x100W bulbs in there, so that, plus the normal lights and engine pull chould be around a 55A draw worst case!
