Hi all,
I'm starting to get a bit fed up with insurance, I know it's expensive when your 17 but the quotes I'm getting are just a joke, the cheapest quote I've had is £2338.40 with adrian flux :( what's annoying me is that when I first brought my mini (a year ago now) I had quotes between 800 and 1400 pound and now it's doubled and then some, also a few people I know got there mini's insured for about 1k just before Christmas. I'm insuring it as my own policy as my parents don't have any no claims and it's a 998 completely standard, garaged at night limited to 6000 miles. I just can't see why it's so expensive and is anyone else having this problem? and does anyone know if insurance prices are going to drop or anything like that any time soon?
Someone help me!! :(
cheers
james

Try calling footman james, they are quiet reasonable.

I wish my insurance was that cheap. Try 3200 third party. Yeah.

With a 1275 I paid £720 to Footman James at 18 and £660 this year at 19. They were the cheapest by far as the second best quote was from Adrian Flux at a similar price to what you got.

It's getting out of hand really. Most of the increase this year is due to the ambulance chasers!

but hasn't footman james stopped insuring under 21's? and do they just not want 17 year olds driving or something? then they say we need more driving experience but they won't ensure us for a decent price in the first place so we can't gain experiance :( it's just becoming a joke. and putting my parents on actually makes it more expensive as my mum had a crash last year and is a named driver on my dads insurance :/ also how have some people on here managed to get insurance for about a grand ish? TELL ME PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU

Weren't the figures quoted in the press recently, that the surge in personal injury compensation claims were responsible for a 10-15% hike in premiums?? If so, then that doesn't really account for premiums doubling and then some!!

You will find that being a learner is far cheaper. Once you pass your test be prepared for up to a 100% increase in premium.

Sadly for you guys it does now seem that this is some sort of covert industry plan to keep male under 21s off the road.

The stats don't lie though - a lot of claims are made by drivers in your age bracket and the amount of uninsured drivers is increasing but it's a shame that you all end up paying for it.

Insurance has gone up for everyone in the last few months but it is now getting ridiculous.

I do fear for the mini scene if young drivers can't get insured. Combine these silly insurance prices with some of the stupid over inflated prices for classic minis nowadays and I struggle to see how the average teenager can ever get a mini on the road. A real shame.

Vicious circle.....uninsured drivers put up premiums.....people can't get/afford insureance = more uninsured drivers!!!
