Hi All,

I'm a new member on these forums but have been reading them for the last few months. I'm looking to buy my first mini but haven't seen anything suitable yet.

I'd really love to get hold of a surf blue late cooper but they appear to be as rare as hen's teeth !! I've only seen 2 advertised since October. So, my first question is, does anyone know how many mpi surf blue coopers were made ? and my second question is, Am I being a bit unrealistic in hoping to get hold of one of these ?

My head tells me to look for a more common colour, possibly tahiti blue.

Any advice would be much apprediated

Many thanks.

if you love the colour you could just buy a mini and spray it that colour, as there is no guarantee if you do locate one it will have good body work, so you may have to respray it anyway.

If it's an MPi, folks on the forum say they rust a lot anyway

GC Motors had one last time I visited. Unfortunately the photo is ruined by me being in it but it was in similar state to the rest of their ridiculous amount of overpriced late Coopers that sit there for years and rust away...

I think they were asking 9k.

Nope me to. Never heard a good word about them.
I know someone that rang them about putting a stage 1 on a 998 auto.
They said it can't be done because you are governed by the gearbox.

I saw a nice smashed Paul Smith there too. With no VIN Plates.

Not that I'm suggesting anything. STEER clear is all.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. I had thought about getting another cooper and exentually having it sprayed in surf blue. There's a mini specialist near me (i'm in the Leeds area) who i've spoken to about having this done. Is it difficult to get the colour of the car changed on the V5 ?

I had seen that one down in swanley at GC motors but it's so expensive, It's up for £6,995 at the moment. After having looked at coopers for sale for the last few months I can see that the place is overpriced. The other thing that worries me is that they have obvioulsy had the car sitting outside for at least a year, The giveaway is that there is snow on the ground in some of the photo's !!

I've seen alot of people on here making comments about the mpi's pretty much rusting before your eyes. Is it better to look for an spi, wouldn't I have to go back to about 94 to find one of those, do all MPI's have this rust issue ?

Thanks again

L

All minis rust, its just about keeping on top of it. i'm not sure if the whole MPI thing is a Myth or not? i have heard it also. Changing the Colour is not too hard, but if you just get a blue mini it will say its blue, not sure it says the shade of blue so its not soemthing that needs changing. as my documents just say 'red'. just an idea.

The problem with the MPi minis is that Rover put such a think layer of paint on them it didn't really do enough to prevent the rust.

I had a visit to GC Minis with a friend of mini about 4 years ago when I bought my Cooper. It's great to see so many minis in one place but I really don't know how they are still in business to be honest. Someone must buy them. The ones indoors would be ok but still overpriced.

Juju's Ploppy went for a really good price recently. I wish I'd had some money, I'd love a surf blue one! It was an optional colour at the time so there's not many about.
