Hi there guys!

I have decided to wash the Engine in the Mini, and have ordered Meguiars Engine Clean and Dressing Kit.

Posted Image

I have a 2000 Rover Mini 1.3 MPi, and was wondering what precautions I need to take when washing the engine, like covering up the alternator etc...

Picture of the engine :

Steps I will be taking so far :

1. Cover the Alternator, Coil Pack and cover the end of the air intake
2. Lightly mist the engine with water
3. Apply the engine cleaner
4. Wash clean after 5 mins
5. Uncover all components
6. Cover the motor in engine dressing
7. Clean off after 5 minutes.

Anything I'm missing?

Thanks,

Benjamin.

just blast the crap out of it (preferably with a steam cleaner and some proper truckwash), its got a sealed ignition system so you wont have any problems, i've steam cleaned mine loads of times with no problems and my mini runs points ignition!!

I made my MPi bay a bit cleaner using Gunk Degreaser, a brush and wire brush, and a hose. Painted a few bits and it made it a lot better.

I removed my coil pack and alternator, both to stop them getting wet and for access. The rest didn't seem to mind getting wet. Just be careful where you point the hose!

I just use a jet washer and not aim it directly at the intake or leccy components... things get wet from rain anyway so a bit of a misting wont do owt, if it does, its bound to stop in the rain anyway

Surely you could just disconnect the battery and wait for everything to dry?

Wow. All that change just from a car wash? Which one do you use? Looks good.

i used autoglym truckwash, some black, chrome effect and gold paint, and £300 on carbs, filters and rocker cover, its a bit different now as those photos were from last year, i've added some other bits like chrome head stud bolt covers and a wiper motor cover since then and tidied it up more.
