And therein is the evil of even contemplating washing your engine. It just leads to all that other work. Yours does look good though.

It really does amaze me how much stuff they managed to fit under the bonnet of the mpi models, must be a nightmare to work on though!! (I find access around the engine bay difficult enough on the late carb models!!)

Personally I don't bother with all the spray on engine degreasing products. I tend to blast the block clean using white spirit through a compressed air powered paraffin gun. Instant results, no scrubbing, no waiting and it also degreases thoroughly and dries quickly afterwards too.

I just sprayed my electrics with WD40 and covered my coil and dizzy with a bag then zapped the enigine with a powerful steam cleaner that we use for cleaning bus and truck engines at work and the engine came out an absolute treat. I also left it running during the process. I never took any before and after photos lol. Gunk and other products are good if you leave them to soak in but with the steam it just whipped all the muck off so I saved a few quid there!

that looks really good, nice job.... :-)

Thanks! It's certainly a lot nicer to work within a tidy engine bay. Even when I'm just checking the oil it's far nicer to look at now!

Yes, its a curse really! I've had to be realistic in how clean I can keep a daily car, else it would just be endless cleaning and painting bits. Credit to those who manage it, but it's not for me!

It does look very busy around the bulkhead with the various pipes and wires, but really it's not too bad. I've got used to know what to move to get to things now, which speeds up jobs a great deal! Now I know whats what and see it as components rather than a collective mess, it's a lot less daunting to look at :D The only truly awkward one so far was the drivers side suspension top arm pin!

You don't need to, but if you do remove that and the radiator you could paint the block and head while in situ. That really makes a difference to the look!
