I posted this in my introduction page but it looks like this section gets more traffic.
I found this car locally.....
http://detroit.craig...2825561532.html
Can someone give me some details that may not be in the description.
I would prefer a hardtop but this might be a good deal.

What should I look for?
Does anyone else have information/picture on other convertibles?
I would want to finish the roll cage for a structure, add different wheels maybe paint it

Can you elaborate on your statement?

Shell looks more like the one the '85 interior came in. Stuck on an old plate to get past the import age rules maybe?

As above, really - Cars imported over the pond have to be a certain age ... which I very much doubt this is. They take an ID from an older car and put it on a newer one, just to get them in to the country. Totally illegal ...!!

What are the differences between the 60s 70s 80s etc? I am having trouble seeing the differences...
Because of possiblitily of it being titled wrong should I run?

The easiest thing to spot a mkI or II saloon is it will have external door hinges. Past '69 they differences are more subtle. I personally wouldn't buy a car where the documents didn't match the car.

There's a thread here that highlights the differences:

http://www.theminifo...ark-is-my-mini/

It takes a bit of reading, but it's amazing once you're aware - You'll start to notice how they're all totally different! :-)

Personally, I wouldn't go for it, as you wouldn't be sure of the history behind it ... but it's your call! :-)

i have a strong feeling that alot of minis in the USA run as older models even though they are newer, i think its kind of the norm. once they are imported and registered. theres nothing to worry about.

im not 100% sure on this

Thanks thats exactly what I was looking for! :)

Without seeing the car I know it is hard to say but what kind of value does a 1985 model have?
I am going to call the secratary of state and see if a title can be modified.
If it is a solid car and I can buy it right I would consider buying it.

yeah but i thought thats what people called them rather than 1000s just seems weird.

as for value, minis in the USA are worth alot more than they are here in the UK. try looking on ebay to compare. Unless we have some Ameicans on here who know value? or a expert in the US second hand car / classic car market

Well I talked to the guy who is selling the car and I felt pretty mislead.
I asked if it was a four speed or five speed... he had no idea
I asked if he had any receipts/documents for rebuilt engine new top etc.. he had no idea
I asked if it had disc brakes.. again he had no idea.

He said it was his car but I have trouble believing that. Since I assume he is selling it for somone else I asked him what is his bottom line as his price was "or best offer" he said he would call me back.

When did 5 speeds become available?
Did the 5 speeds offer better acceleration or an overdrive?
