Throw it in the bin, they look awful.

Er...you need a fog light to pass an MOT.

Mount it in the middle of the rear valance!

My minis always passed without the foglight, my mot tester told me that as long as the switch isn't there either, they can't test it for it to fail.

Keep it, it's a safety feature, and stick it in the middle where you won't have any issues

Then he needs to speak to VOSA regarding some retraining. That thing about the fog switch really is an urban myth. All cars first used after 1st April 1980 need to have a fog lamp which has to work. Not having the switch is a fail (reason for rejection number 1). It's that simple at the MOT. A reverse lens conversion probably won't fail an MOT, none of the reasons for rejection really cover it. The MOT doesn't test that your car is legal and the tester is not required to inspect the lamps that closely. It is however not a legal conversion for any car that is required to have a fog lamp by law. A roadside VOSA or Vehicle Inspector check will reveal it, and as said above it's about safety and the whole point of the fog lamp is to be clearly seen.

I would move it to the middle myself.

That does seem to be the proper and safe way to do it.

Presumably I'll need to drill a couple of new holes in the valance for the screws?

Many thanks to everyone for your advise.

And a hole for the wire to come through!

You will have to extend the wire too!

Not difficult to do though!

This is the standard bracket, you will have to offset it to get the light in the middle, or make your own bracket!

Mmmm smiffy bracket. That's nice!

But if you can, I'd make your own. You could make it fully hidden behind the lamp, and get the kick angle correct.

I used it for the picture as I couldn't find one on the minispares site!

Could be used? Depends on where the exhaust pipe exits in relation to where an overrider would sit if you had one....

Move it into the reverse light on the drivers side, makes the rear end alot cleaner ;)

That's actually not a bad idea! Presumably you just have to take the wiring from the fog light to the reverse light on the drivers side and change it to a red bulb?

but doesn't pass a MOT test as it's to near the brake lights

Ah...

But most cars have the fog light built into the rear light cluster don't they?

yes but their car's have gone through type approval to be that way, are you going to do the same with your mini or just stick to the construction and use regs ?

If you do not wish to put it on the rear of the car, place it in the bottom right of your rear window and shroud it to the glass. It falls within the MOT regs, and won't create a rust trap.
