I read may peaple have put the electronic ignition conversion kit on there mini, and I was thinking of doing so as well when the cold goes away and fund is avaliable.
1. How hard is it to convert for the normal ignition (contact points and condensers) to the electronic ignition.
2. How to fit..any advice
3. Best place to get it from.
Thank you

If you have a ballast coil at the moment, you will need to run an ignition controlled 12v feed to the new coil and electronic module.
You will also find that the timing needs quite a bit of adjustment after you have fitted the kit. (mine was so far out the car wouldn't start)
General opinion is that you can run a slightly wider plug gap with this kit fitted.

Good luck

I bought the Accusparks one as a kit with the coil. Very easy to fit and works a treat. Accusparks service was superb also.

im on about the on that is already mounted to the base plate steve so all you have to do is remove and replace : http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_3169wt_1185

Your choice, but I think you will find fitting the basic unit easier than swapping the whole base plate (cheaper to)
I took the dizzy out to do it, marking the position first.
Once I had the car running again, 2 mins with a timing lamp had the timing set up spot on. Not sure of you can set statically with one of these kits but I'm sure someone will confirm one way of the other. Follow instructions in the Haynes book of words if you're not sure of the process.

It will need re timing whichever one you fit.
Setting the timing on a mini is very straightforward. If you can fit and wire one of these kits, you are more than capable of setting up the timing.
Follow the instructions in Haynes, or get someone local who knows to talk you through it. A really useful skill to learn if you are doing your own servicing.

You'll need to highlight the correct mark on the timimg cover and the TDC mark on the pulley. The exact mark (think it's 8 or 10 degrees but please double check) you need to highlight will be detailed in the engine spec for your car.
Sorry, not the best instructions I know, but difficult to put into words without typing war & peace.
I'll see if I can find a link for you

Is it possible/advisable to set the timing with one of these kits fitted? I need to set the static timing (which I think is basically set), but my biggest concern is being able to get the timing right so that I can get the revs up straight away to bed in the camshaft.

Rather than start my own topic on timing with electronic conversion kits I thought I'd pick the one that was closest to what I'm after and then ask my question.
Is it possible/advisable to set the timing with one of these kits fitted? I need to set the static timing (which I think is basically set), but my biggest concern is being able to get the timing right so that I can get the revs up straight away to bed in the camshaft.
Its essential to check the timing after fitting a electronic kit see here a step by step http://www.theminifo...t-step-by-step/ due to the trigger point of slight differences between cam on the points and the trigger point of the new module and trigger ring.
So this is a engine thats not run yet ? so the timing set at a static setting of 6degs will be ok to keep the revs up to run the cam in at a higher revs, and when done you can set the timing as per your engine/distributor with a timing light, is my advice.
If your unsure about the electronic kit run it up on points with static timing and do the kit when your other running is complete, its only a 10min job.
