Alloy Door Furniture (Lock Surround)

I was just wondering how people have fitted the lock surround? Mine have been supplied with tiny screws and some tiny white plug things.... but when attempting to screw them to the door, the plugs aren't big enough to keep them attached and just fall out of the hole again.
I tried using some rawl plugs that are bigger than the tiny things supplied and bigger screws, but the plugs just turned in the hole again.
Has anyone got better suggestions (don't say just put the black ones back on).
Cheers!

OK, but haven't you now got exposed holes on show on the outside of the surrounds?? I did think about putting some double-sided tape on them, but didn't want the holes with no screws in.

I was gonna try and find some self tappers that would fit in the hole and not bother with the plugs.
Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
