right....mums relaly annoying me now, lol, she wants to buy a newer mini cause they are safer(yeh rite, ide loose the bag for a momo anyway!).. so my questions are, is MPI worse/better then carb in any way and is they any reason why i shouldnt get an MPI? any bad bits about em/problems (apart from being newer and stupid)
personally i want a carb, dont know why, mind is set though...

carbs are a bit more idot proof and you dont need a computer to tell you whats wrong with them
but with a MPI you will get side impack doors and a air bag

ive just rebuilt babybeks mpi,
too be honest yes mpi's are smoother and a little quicker than carb std!
as far as body goes what protection you get with an mpi as you mention you disguard as you mod !
as far as working on them they are a pain in the ass ! spanner rash is a certain bet!
dont worry about tuning tho as the std ecu will cope with upto +60block and stg3 head tuning but dont go for higher than 276/fast road cams !
as std ecu doesnt like it and it cant be remapped only fuel and air altered generally at any decent mini tuning center
any tune must have a rolling road session anyway regardless of model for the upgrade to have substantial effect !
