Hello all,
Not sure if you'll be able to help but I've heard that when converting from rhd to lhd on a mini with a servo you need some special metal bar on the pedal box or something like that for the brakes... can anyone shed any light on this fact??

yes there is a bar that goes from the brakd pedal across bottem of dassh to servo, they are hard to come by so good luck

I know it would involve new brake lines, but can you not just move the entire brake master cylinder to the other side?

You need to move the master cylinder anyway because they both change sides to be above the pedals well on non servo models that's the way to do it.... what about those with remote servo like the 1275gt's etc they didn't need the bar...

And what if you bypassed the servo completely??

Or plumb in a remote servo instead perhaps?

Before the 1989 onwards cantilever servo/combined master cylinder was introduced the single or dual circuit brake master cylinders could be moved across to the matching holes in the opposite side of the bulkhead. This could not be done with the later servo on LHD Mini's due to no space on that side for the larger servo assembly.......ie. engine/radiator in the way. Therefore the pedal bar extension was needed. If you fit the earlier dual circuit brake master cylinder and pedal box there should be no problem but the earlier remote type servo was only used with the single circuit brakes on the Cooper S and early 1275GT.

So given the fact that this bar is like rocking horse you know what it's either keep it rhd or ditch the servo and switch to a dual circuit set up...
What effect would it have on the braking?

It'd be the same as an unservo'd Mini. It doesn't look that hard to fabricate something similar. Alternatively you could plumb a remote servo into the front circuit only, that's what they did on Innocenti's.

So it'd just change the feel of the brakes, it doesn't look complicated just a pain that no one has one, I don't even think any of the suppliers in a lhd country have one...
What system do you think would be the best??

Great link Mab, certainly a person worth knowing if he makes them.

I'm not suprised they're rare in the UK, but not at all in The Netherlands. Have a look here: http://link.marktplaats.nl/522936499
It's the Dutch version of eBay. Click on the right where it says 'E-mail deze adverteerder' to send an e-mail. The seller is called William and speaks English. Drop me a PM if you need any help.

In France they are unheard of on the various parts sites, but France is a backwards country especially when it comes to cars and mods etc
