So why can't you just carry a standard steel spare and stick a sticker on it saying "max 50 MPH"? If you only use it for an emergency to get to a tyre fitter as you have to with OE space savers then it wouldn't really matter would it?
And lots of cars now don't even come with a spare, just runflats and a can of tyre slime, you could do that.

Still a silly idea though.

You can use normal standard steel spare
But only to get you out of trouble NOT permanent

Just don’t try putting you car through an MOT with a space saver or similar wheel that is different to the rest, as it will fail

Don’t know if any one has noticed but all new Porches (911s and boxters) all come with space savers

Only when you chose optional alloys, most car makers do that.

I don't carry a spare, I have an RAC card ;D

but I've seen cars with 12's on the front and 10's on the back etc... and as long as you don't mix on the axle you should be ok..

Also using a std 145/70 12 is ok for a spare on both 12 and 13's as the rolling raduis is the same (give or take), and sportpack minis have a std 12" as a spare anyway.
