I love the sound of them too, been geeky and searched youtube for Mini weber etc to hear some different cars with webers.

Will be adding to that list of videos once mines back up and running.

The number, 40, 45, 50, etc, is the diameter of the choke tubes in mm.

Because it will pass enough air through it to make the thing go. That's unless you fit really small chokes and strangle it.

as said before forget the swan neck manifold
sounds you have already made your mind up about the weber

a 44 with a cone filter makes a good noise

if its a daily car use a SU 44 if its second car for fun yes go for the weber

An HIF44 with a short stack will perform just as well or better than the weber and sound just as good. OK nearly as good. And give the same power, OK nearly as much, but yes, where you need it, and give more mpg, much more.

Swan neck is terrible - and a 40 DCOE is too small for a 1275 anyway - you need a 45 DCOE - and deep pockets to pay for the heavy fuel consumption! HIF 44 is THE way to go.
