Hi guys,

As my clubman is coming to a finish i am starting to look into my track mini, i would like to get 200+ bhp, i know it is possible as i have seen readings on turbo minis.
I have had a look on their site and posted a few topics and so on but i have found that they do not seem to be as friendly as this forum.
I would like to know how to go about doing it, how i can achieve it and so on

The turbo people will be able to help much more than me but the basic spec will be a high performance 1380-1400 with T3 turbo running 20+psi

VTEC turbo is a more reliable 200+bhp build if you aren't struck on staying A-Series?

Chasing figures will always be difficult and expensive at the same time. Anybody can give you a spec and say their engine makes 200hp but putting into practice is another thing.

You just need to do your research really. Spec a motor to your taste.

Years ago it was more difficult to acheive it, but now with more modern and efficient turbos and with the introduction of mappable ignition higher numbers can now be acheived.

In general most turbo boys go for 1293 for the simple reason of keeping life in the block for future rebores. The bigger bore wont make a dramatic difference in power. Concentrate more on compression ratio, head spec and cam spec. Aswell as choosing a turbo for your type of driving. Also at those power levels you will need to pay attention to the clamping pressure on your clutch, as it will more than likely start to slip, specially on track.

Thats my 2p. Hopefully chaps can add to this and inform you more :).

HTH.

If it were me i'd be going for injection and a 7 port head.

If your sticking 5 port, heres some reading to start off: http://www.turbo-min...3348/43375.html

Its not that the TM guys are 'unfriendly'. The problem is they find lots of yuppy idiots come on there asking the same questions time and time again who only want a turbo because the car goes pssh.

If you pose sensible questions which haven't been covered recently then they are happy to answer questions.

Otherwise, thats what the search function is for.

I would basically echo Pauly's statements.

I'm going turbo too at the moment and am opting for 1293 but a track car is a different entity entirely.

+1 to be honest. In the nicest way, no body likes to be spoon feeding infomation to people, nor do they like repeating themselves. Especially when stuff can be found with a click of a button :)

I can understand where you are coming from, maybe i should have asked in a different manner.
When it comes to 7 ports where would you go about looking for one?

MED, minisport, Ebay for cheaper versions. Specialist components are the don though from the info i've read.

The main issue, and cost, would be keeping it from going bang. Almost any bhp is possible with a low enough compression ratio and it's easier to get the CR down with less displacement. The problem with low compression is a lack of power before the turbo spools up, that's why people build 1380's with forced induction.

So a 1380 would be the way to go?

No need for 1380 at all. As said above, getting the CR low enough is harder work with a 1380, I'd use as small an overbore as you can.
