thers not much you could carry and a 1985 mini dosnt have the braking ability,to cope with a trailer

All Minis got 8.4" disc brakes from late 1984 and so long as the whole braking system is in good working order, then i'd say it has more than enough braking ability to cope with a trailer.

I regularly tow with my mini with no problems at all. The brakes arent the issue its the amount of tyre on the road that is as i find it easy to lock up the front wheels even when towing so its just something you have to bear in mind and modifiy your driving style ( ie bigger breaking gaps). You can tow upto half the curb weight of the car if the trailor is unbreaked or upto the curb weight if it is breaked. So if rover set the kirb weight at 450kg then you can tow upto that breaked or 225kg on and unbreaked one legaly. I think i have towed more than this on an unbreaked trailor before and not really found any issues going and only the issue with lack of grip stopping.

My towbar fixes to the rear subframe and base of the rear seat timeisthefireinwhichweburn, so that might work for you.

wolfie surely it will put no more strain on the mounts than applying the breaks will or putting the handbreak on. As then the rear subframe is stopping the whole car where as an unbreaked trailor can only legaly weigh half the weight of the car. and the towbar fixed to the shell too so I wouldnt think it will overly strain subframe mounts. Mine are just standard and ive had no issues after 18 months of regular towing

So towing my gross weight 620kg Eriba Puck on my 1980 clubman is not legal then? Well, I have towed it all over Europe safely. And I have towed it at 60 mph on the motorway quite happily. It might be illegal, but the law was very vague in those days. So I plead historical ignorance. I've never been stopped or questioned by police.

"The Victor caravan was built from 1972 to late 1974 in two and four berth formats. These micro tourers were built for towing with the then BMC Mini car – even the Victors wheels were interchangeable with the car."

The brochure for 1973 described the Victor as a Mini Breakthrough-Pun intended.
