theres no problem with changing it (with the oil pump aswell obvs) but having the pin drive cam indicates that the engine has been worked on previously as these were not standard and this cam could be an upgraded cam. is there any reason you want to change the cam????

im sorry thats not right all 850, 998 and 1098 a series cams were pin drive. the 970, 1071 and 1275 a series were different (spider drive) i think. then the A+ series slot drive

mmmmm intresting.

i have no spec mini place near me. how would i find out what it is.

strange thing as well was the timing gear was wrong.

Posted Image

there was not chain tension on the chain. it was like this when i took the cover off. and i took the engine out of a ruining car.
and there was slop if u turned it left to right. much more than normal due to there being no tension on the chain.

aww i see. how early would this engine be.

would there be any problems rebuilding this older engine over two other A+ blocks i have.
this one is in the best condition tho.

It's not an A+, so that's why it's in the best condition ;-)

most parts are interchangable or they have A series and A+ version so there isnt really too much to worry about just check with the supplier before you buy the parts
