custom exhaust

right my uncle has said he will make me a custom exhaust if i want one and i fancy the exhaust coming out the side just before the rear wheels and was wondering would it be legall if its just straight through pipe coming off the manifold with no silencer on

no legally you must have a functioning silencer. you could try it using a middle box and no backbox i suppose.

hmmm :ph34r: fair enaugh my mate had this on his 2.0L turbo nova and it used to sound like a rocket sounded amazing ;D

it will be absolutely rubbish performance wise. it is do-able though

Ive seen it done properly on Land rovers before but they are high up and also keeps the water from the exhaust when offroading - thats the true purpose...

BUT: a Land rover is quite high up - to pull it off on a Mini there would have to be a lot of bending and curves causing an even LoUdEr exhaust - thats what they did on the Scooby's (curves in the manifold) to give that unique sound.

Imprezas and other Subarus "burble" because of unequal length manifolds, nothing to do with the amount of curves. Hence the Spec C, which has an equal length manifold doesn't have the sound.. :withstupid:

the only why i can see doing it is by cutting up ur floor to mount the backbox higher up, if u dont have rear passengers and can weld good wont be to hard, dunno about the legality as u'll have to chop abit of the sill out,

i dont have rear seats so no passengers in the rear and my uncle is a metal worker so can do most stuff with metal

No, its because of the manifold! lol

With an equal length manifold it sounds like a normal car!
