If it were me I would put some fluid in until it came to about 0.060" down from head face and see what that volume is, then re-calculate the CR. If it is over around 9:25:1 skim 0.060" off it and just run it as it is until you need an engine build. Or you could find a 1275 block, crank & pistons needing a re-build and build the "the engine you always promised yourself", whatever that might be with better pistons. The problem with the pistons you have is that the oil drain holes/slots below the bottom ring are slots and they are rather long which reduces piston strength, so high compression combined with high revs may not be a good idea!. The 21253 is a better piston, but still at a good price compared to, say, Omega, and the height is better too.
If you do buy an engine to re-build, it's not really cash spent, it's just cash flow as you can sell your existing engine when you swap it in the car. You might get more back than you spent buying it as blocks become scarcer with time.

i went to look at a 1380 this morning, but i wasnt completely happy with it sadly.

i think i may put it back together as it is and buy/build a new unit.

its all come as a bit of a shock really as we all thought it was a really well sorted engine, and its proved to be very good on a track too. if only it was assembled better, it would have been brilliant, having said that, it probably wouldnt have lasted if it had 10:1 cr.
