They're fairly harsh and loud but good fun, fair roadholding and grip if they're set up right and good handling. They feel really quite different to a modern car

Depends what you're comparing it to. The steering is incredibly direct, so you feel a lot more involved in the driving process. It's also very easy to control. Drive it and see. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Only having 4 gears becomes a bit of an issue on the motorway, if you're doing over 70 (law...speeding...blah blah). I've never really thought "Oh, I really wish I had a 5th gear". Having said that, because you're right in the power band when cruising at that speed, you've got a fair bit more pull to play with (in a 1275 anyway, dunno about 998's etc).

In my opinion, if it was that much of a problem, it would have been changed in the 40 years which the mini was made!

Can get a little noisy on the motorways, apart from that its one less gearchange too worry about! :P

You said your running coilovers, for use in the road they take a fair amount of tinkering to get set up properly, however when they are, there worth it! :D

It handles like it does because of its clever suspension which at the time was ahead of its errr time, also the power output again for that time compliments it, put another 100hp on top to keep up with modern traffic and that suspension can/will suffer, it won't handle like the mini you know and love

I wouldn't bother comparing the handling to modern cars, modern cars might have electric windows and heated seats etc but look at how the modern cars look, look how glum the people are who are driving them, if you want to drive a proper car with a smile on your face at whatever speed you want then classic mini for the win all day everyday

Only if you do long journeys above about 60-65mph. It's not that much of a problem, it just means you can't really cruise at such high speeds as modern cars and it's quite loud at high speeds, but then you can just turn up the radio :D I thought mine was bloody loud when I got it (it's only standard :shy:) but now I don't even think about it

:withstupid: Dan's right! There are things that it can't do as well as a modern car and sometimes you'll hate it (normally when it goes wrong) but it just puts a big smile on your face
