Theres a Nissan pathfinder with 1 OIL or OIL 1 too. Expected to find it on a super car though

Yes you do. 'I' was used on number plates in Ireland both North and South in the way 'S' is used on Scottish plates. The Irish Republic kept the British system until the 80s I think. It continued in the north. OIL would be a variant of IL for Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, which is of course UK. I frequently see personalised plates based on IL. Northern Ireland registrations are also popular with coach operators as they do not indicate age.

you guy's are lucky you get to choose your plates, we get stuck with the plates that the government issues to the vehicle

Near where i live there are two plates on cars which change from time to time but are always expensive. Currently they are an Aston Martin and a Range Rover. The plates are 2 BE and NOT 2B.
