Ive just bought myself a 1978 mini clubman and im currently working on it, to day i was poking around the front of the left outer wing( not the best idea) to look at some rust spots.(there all towards the front of the wing)

I pushed through 5 little ones altogeather, there about the size pencil at the most.

Do i need a new wing or would i be able to fill the holes just to last a year or so til i can afford to replace the wing and give the car a full respray.

Any help would be super

You could use filler

Put some duck tape on the back of the panel to stop the filler falling through
Prime then paint

But it’s more than likely that the rust will show trough the filler making it look worse within a month or two

Or weld it up for a proper job, just filling a hole is a crappy bodge!

So i suppose if i drill the holes out slightly larger ie back to good metal that should hold for a while.

Yep should do

Just make sure you use good quality filler
As the one I used to smooth over the joins in my front panel has cracked and allowed water to attack the sound metal behind

no, water will get in, and they will rust even more...

don't worry though, I have never done anything like this before....you carry on LOL

Like final smoothing of my doors, rear panels and the dint in my boot lid
Done over 8 months now not a hint of bubbling

And I take you know someone or work in a body shop then?

filler is for removing ripples and dents from panels, not for repairing holes.

As for me, I know alot of people, and I don't work in a bodyshop, but I DO know how to repair cars properly and have been for the last 10 years....

just to say, using filler in seams is not a good idea. the seams flex and move. filler has no give and cracks, hence water and rust. better to use a flrxable filler. i use silkaflex, used to hold winscreens in, strong stuff but a positive side affect is that if fills seams great, paint adheers to it and it has enought give in it to not crack. Bonzer!!

that wont work either , the seams flex as said in a previos post , the steel will crack either side of the welds after a bit
