12/13" i find best, any smaller and its like driving with a tea coaster, any bigger and it's like driving a bus!

I have wood rims in two of my cars,

this old Les Leston in my Traveller

and this in my Sprite.

As for size, anything between 12 and 14 inches is good. Any smaller and the steering gets heavy.

Surfblue63 i love the wheel in the second pic - bet its pricey :gimme:

Would wooden look ok in a 79 car with centre clocks and standard interior (Well black later seats with headrests)

I've used both 13" & 14" over the years. Personal preference is the 14".

This is mine, not decided if I need to change it for a deeper dish wheel yet due to where I'll bolt the seat. But they look okay in most minis and look pretty much of the right period in the late 70s onwards cars. I think it's a 13". Lots of Mountney wheels about!

The wheel in the second pic came from Ebay, about £60 4 years ago. The centre is standard Mini, to fit I took a hole cutter to the wheel centre and push fitted it here.

Huddersfield Spares do the same wheel, although it's a bit more now.

I have a 13" leather mountney in mine and its great!

Only thing i'd switch it for is a suede covered one if I were going for a more track day feel.

I run a leather Astrali 13" wheel, feels and looks just right IMO. Even with my wider wheels and wider track (Fiesta conversion) the steering is not too heavy even when not moving :)

Ahh yeah, you should really choose a steering wheel along with the sort of wheels your car has. If you've got 7" wide wheels, the steering will be really heavy with a 10" wheel.
