Ok, after suffering a smoky engine with a notchy second gear in my 1275GT, I've managed to procure a better than reasonable 1275 MG Metro engine and box from a written off MG Metro. It'll keep the mini on the road whilst I get the GT Engine sorted out.

Now I'm aware of most of the things I need to do to fit this in place of my motor, heater tap, thermostat housing etc etc.. But...

The Metro engine has an angled clutch slave cylinder bracket, and a really short arm, completely unlike my GT. What's the best course if action. Remove the GT's flywheel and clutch and swap them over to the metro unit, or attempt to get a Metro slave cylinder to make that work? I take it this is a verto clutch... Never had a mini new enough to have one!

Either way I'll stick a new clutch in whilst it's out.

Thanks in advance.

transfer all of the clutch parts from the GT engine to the metro engine, it will make life a whole lot easier, and use the GT bell housing as well as the clutch release bearing and the clutch arm are different on the verto clutch.

yeah...........the verto flywheel is different, basically take all of the verto stuff off and put it to one side....including the flywheel nut and washer.

Why would you want to do all that? It is far easier to keep the Verto clutch, which is better anyway, and just get a new slave cylinder. It is a standard Mini part. Just ask your usual supplier for a Verto slave cylinder. You already have the bracket, arm etc.

Frankly, the suggestion of changing the flywheel etc, even the outer casing, is quite ridiculous, when you only need one simple part that is often in need of replacement anyway.

... or ill I end up with a starter motor issue?
The metro starter will clear the Clubman front, and I'm quite capable of making it work electrically though...

The starter needs to match the the flywheel ring gear.

if i remember correctly, the rubber hose to the slave cylinder is different on a verto as well.....and the verto flywheel is heavier than a non verto.

Decided the way to go is to get a verto slave, and go that route. The engine is only going to be temporary whilst I rebuild the GT engine.
Incidentally I ordered a Verto slave from Wood & Picket late yesterday, and it was delivered this morning! Good show W&P!

I thought you could use the old slave with a verto flywheel. Is that not the case?

Hit another problem. Went to fit the slave cylinder last night ... no mounting bracket! (Should have looked first!)
Now, I need a bracket, that's obvious, but there appears to be a bolt and a spacer listed (1 bolt?) I can't visualise how it would be held in place with just one bolt and a spacer. Unfortunatly my Haynes book isn't new enough to cover Verto clutches! Also, can I re-use my non-verto push rod, or do I need that as well?
Sorry for all the questions...
