Have you got a can of WD40, if not, get a can, and spray it over the screws and that, leave it for a few minutes for it to soak in, then try it. works wonders sometimes!! but other times can be totally useless!!
This pic was taken about 2 years ago on a mayfair my dad had, that oil was leaking all over the diff as you can see!!
As for the photos, all i can say is don't get too close without the makro.. and if there is more light on one side than the other, get the light reflecting into the lense, small lense cameras need masses of light.
And what you can try doing to determine where the leak is definately coming from, is clean the underside of the engine, sump, diff, CV joints etc with some sort of oil remover, then check it a few hours/days later to see where the fresh oil has ran.

mine wa sleaking from there, buy the rubber seal and just insert with the old 1 still there, the double thickness applies more pressure holding it all.

Hey rob-mini, do you go along to the cruises that take place in nottingham?? i have been a couple of times in my mates escort. I've seen a few minis there in the past, always parked in the trolley park tho lol!!!
Now i have passed my test i will be going along to some, but only when my mate goes in his escort as then i can join his convoy.
Is it not a little dodgey just pushing the new one onto the old one??
Rich.

i do go down, good fun round there,
not in my car as im only 17 2day but soon as i get my full licence my ass will be a blur getting down to the circuit. Theres a brown clubby estate turbo ruhmored to be pushing 200bhp, watched it *yellow human water* all over a scooby off the lights people were a bit shocked  . The person who tunes my race told me to do it, hes had minis for years so i expect it to work ok

Rob the point about using 2 seals is not to add more pressure, it will not because the old seal is worn. But it supports the gear change shaft better.
The modifed kits do this by adding a alloy spacer inside the new seal.

Hi, go for the seal kit, the £3.92 one, because that also has the long rubber corregated thing that always splits aswel, not sure what the metal bit is for tho :S:S i am sure it will come with some instructions!!

nope they dont, they come in a box with a plastic seal. I've had parts off these before because there pretty local.
My local car shop who normally get hold of bits sed they couldnt, so i am just gunna order 1. Just bought myself a Haynes manuel too, so that shud help me out. Bargin @ 0.99
I was confused, because the 1st one is
GEARCHANGE ROD OIL SEAL GEARBOX
and the 2nd one (the kit, with metal thing) is
GEAR BOX ROD OIL SEAL KIT
So i'm guessing its 1st one, pretty cheap. Wots the other seal it could be, might as well replace them both or get it just incase.

The first one is just a standard seal.
The other is the modifed kit. To fit it remove the old seal and check that there is not a second one there. Then fit the rubber 'O' ring to the alloy ring, then push the ring in the box as far as it goes, then fit the seal.
The alloy ring is to support the rod and reduce the risk of the seal leaking.

Yes, but personally I never use P&l, I have always found Minispares much better to deal with and they are only in Harrogate.

When I first looked at the area. Car is in neutral and the area is covered with oil.
Not sure where the oil is coming from, but it seems to be running down the sump (is it, the sliver bit?) and drippin off.
These cone rubber things keep forming oil on them. The lefthand side dripped alittle.
After cleaning it up, 30mins later i came back to find oil again.
The rubber cone things on the drive axle (i think) are leaking, therefore oil running down either side of sump / gearbox and leaving a mess for meh. If so, are they easily changed or fixed?
I got plenty of pics, light isnt that good but i tried to make them clear.
